The Opportunity

Experian’s acquisition of BillFixer aimed to empower users to reduce monthly bills directly within their financial tools. The challenge extended beyond technical integration; it involved building trust, identifying the right moments for engagement, and delivering tangible value without disrupting core user experiences.

My Role

I led the end-to-end product design for the BillFixer integration, steering the experience strategy, defining the UX narrative, and crafting all user-facing language from opt-in to confirmation. Collaborating closely with PMs, engineers, legal, and marketing teams, I ensured that BillFixer felt like a natural extension of Experian’s brand promise.

Challenges & Pivots

Integrating a bill negotiation service into a credit-focused platform required a trust-centric approach. Key decisions included:

• Contextual Entry Points: Identified moments when users were financially vulnerable, such as after reviewing high bills or credit reports to introduce BillFixer.

• Trust-First Messaging: Developed onboarding flows and microcopy that minimized friction and built user confidence.

• Modular Design System: Created scalable UI components compatible with Experian’s web and mobile platforms.

Outcome & Impact

The integration yielded significant results:

• Over $1,000,000 saved for users within the first year post-acquisition.

• 46% of savings occurred in March alone, indicating scalable momentum.

• The opt-in flow designed became a model for future Experian partner integrations.

• BillFixer transitioned from a pilot to a core financial wellness feature within Experian’s offerings.

The Output

Delivered a seamless opt-in experience, trust-building microcopy, and a modular UI system that integrated effortlessly into existing platforms, enhancing user engagement without disrupting their financial routines.

What I Learned

This project deepened my understanding of the importance of emotional context and timing in design. It reinforced that effective design often involves delivering the right message at the right moment, fostering trust, and providing value without overwhelming the user.
